San Jose airport is about 20 minutes from our house. San Francisco about 45 minutes.
Limo from and to the airport
For a great comfortable and reasonably priced limo service from the airport to our house we always use Bose whenever we go on a trip, just tell him that Hans and Hema referred you to him. Bose can be reached by email on boseradravu@yahoo.com or by phone at +1-650-678-2298. From San Francisco airport (SFO) to our house he will charge you $75 plus airport fee and tip (please don't forget to tip him). From San Jose airport (SJC) to our house he will charge you $45 plus airport fee and tip (please don't forget to tip him).
Another option is to use the free airport pickup if you are staying at the Grand Hotel. Please call the hotel directly for this service.
Airport shuttle (shared van)
At http://www.southandeastbayairportshuttle.com/ you can book a shared van to and from the airports. Much cheaper than a limo. We have never used them so have a look at Yelp to see what people think http://www.yelp.com/biz/south-and-east-bay-airport-shuttle-san-jose and http://www.yelp.com/biz/south-and-east-bay-airport-shuttle-san-jose-2 As you can tell from the reviews there it can be good or bad but it is definitely cheaper.
Car rental
For car rental near our house we suggest using Enterprise car rental: http://www.enterprise.com
You can of course rent a car at the airport but be advised that they add an airport surcharge for every day that you are renting. So it might be cheaper to take Bose (see above) to our house or your hotel near our house and then rent from Enterprise.

one day $43
You get 5% discount with a AAA membership. And as always in the USA they will add taxes to this.
